Real Perspective: "Students are like oxygen to me."

The WPI faculty are passionate about teaching. How do we know? The proof is in the responsiveness to students, day and night, outside of class as well as in class. One student noted, for example, that she sent her professor an e-mail at 2 a.m., and got a reply at 3 a.m.! It's not surprising, then, to hear a professor state, "We're in-your-face intimate. Students spend more one-to-one hours with faculty than they do at any comparable school in the country." Easy access and constant interaction breed mutual affection as well as mutual respect. Good things happen at a place where professors say things like, "I like to play intellectual tennis. Here, I'm not hitting a pillow." or "I like watching the light bulbs go on."

We're Number One!

The National Survey of Student Engagement has ranked WPI 1st out of 33 doctoral-intensive universities for "student-faculty interactions," a measure of the quality and quantity of time faculty spent with undergraduate students. Of our 314 full- and part-time faculty members, 98% hold a PhD.
