Applying to WPI
Entrance Requirements
- Candidates must be enrolled in, or have recently completed, courses in calculus and in two laboratory sciences at the time of application.
- Candidates must have a cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Candidates must be in good academic and disciplinary standing at their current institution.
Application Requirements
WPI uses the same application for transfer candidates, entering first year students and international transfer students. Students may submit the WPI, Common or Universal applications for consideration. All applicants are also required to submit the following materials to the Undergraduate Admissions Office:
- Non-refundable $60 application fee

- Mid-semester grade report form for current courses (download the mid-semester grade report form [PDF])
- Final high school transcript with date of graduation
- Two letters of recommendation
one letter must be from a math or science instructor
one letter may come from another academic instructor, employer or military supervisor
- List of all work and school activity from high school graduation through present
- students who have been out of high school for several years are required to submit a résumé of all activity and employment
- Certification of Academic and Disciplinary Standing Form (download the certification of standing form [PDF])
- Essay discussing the applicant's goals in transferring to WPI
- Interviews are optional
International transfer students must also submit:
- English translations and credit evaluations for all official transcripts
- TOEFL or IELTS scores
- Proof of financial ability
international students are not eligible for financial aid and must provide proof of funds for their total educational and living expenses before an I-20 can be issued
Applicants are evaluated for admission on the basis of all application materials requested above.
Applicants who do not meet the entrance requirements can take required courses at a local college with Admissions Office approval. WPI also has a transfer partnership with Quinsigamond Community College. Students who graduate from the Basic Engineering program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will generally enter WPI with junior-year standing. Application Deadlines
The priority deadline for September admission (A-Term) is April 15; priority deadline for January admission (C-Term) is November 15. Transfer admission review is rolling and an admissions decision may be reached before the deadline as long as all requested materials have been received.
