Transfer Credit
Formal transfer credit will be reviewed and granted as soon as a final transcript is received. Please keep in mind that because WPI programs are not generally course specific and because there is no specific number of credits required for graduation, credit plays a somewhat lesser role at WPI than it does at other colleges.
The WPI faculty make final decisions as to which courses will be accepted for transfer credit. The Office of Admissions and the Office of Academic Advising can provide an unofficial estimate of how long it will take you to complete your academic program.
In all cases, the transferring course must be the academic equivalent of a WPI course. Generally, all college-level chemistry, calculus, and calculus-based physics and engineering science courses will transfer. Virtually all humanities or social science courses will transfer. Examples of courses that will not transfer are:
- pre-calculus
- non-calculus-based physics or engineering science
- computer courses in BASIC
Transfer credit will be given for all courses in which a grade of C or better is earned with the exception of mathematical sciences, where a grade of B or better is required. However, please note that while a grade of C in a course is acceptable for transfer credit, applicants must have an overall GPA significantly higher than a C in order to gain admission to WPI.
