Transfer Admissions
WPI welcomes applications from transfer students. WPI receives hundreds of transfer applications each year and admission is highly competitive. Most transfer applicants have achieved a 3.0 (B) or better GPA in a math/science program at their college.
- Candidates cannot be in poor academic or disciplinary standing at any other college or university if they wish to transfer to WPI.
- All applicants to WPI must have completed a course in calculus (or be enrolled in a calculus class at the time of application).
- We look for demonstrated strength in math, science, and computer or engineering course work.
We have established 3-2 and 2-2 articulation agreements with several colleges and universities. For more information, call the Office of Admissions at 508-831-5286.
Admissions Requirements
WPI uses the same application for transfer admission that it does for entering freshmen. International transfer students use this application, as well. You can apply using the traditional paper application form or the WPI on-line application. Both are available on the Apply Now section of our Web site. We also accept the Common Application and applications submitted through College View, CollegeLink and ExPAN. The $60 application fee is required for all applicants. In addition, all transfer applicants for part- and full-time admission are required to submit the following application materials to the Office of Admissions:
- Transcripts from all college work
- At least two recommendations (preferably academic). One must come from a math or science instructor. The additional recommendation may come from another academic instructor or may be an employer or military recommendation.
- An essay discussing the applicant's goals in transferring to WPI
- For students who have been out of school for a semester or more, we also require a list of all work and academic experiences beginning immediately after high school graduation. For older students, this may take the form of a resumé as long as it dates back to high school. All time since high school must be accounted for.
If you have completed more than three college semesters, a high school transcript is usually not required. Interviews are not a required part of the application process. WPI requires up-to-date transcripts and mails a Mid-semester Grade Report form to applicants who are enrolled in college coursework at the time of application.
International transfer students are asked to submit additional materials to those stated above. For additional information on international transfer admission, please see International Admissions.
