Global Perspective Photo Gallery: Bangkok, Thailand

Insights from the Student Photographer

Hi! My name is Batsirai Mutetwa and I am a Biochemistry major in the class of 2007. I am from Zimbabwe, and I came to WPI from Geneva, Switzerland. For my interactive project, I went to Thailand where my group partners and I worked with the Mahavachiralongkorn Thanyaburi Cancer Center. We were assessing the costs and benefits of hospice and homecare programs for terminally ill Thai cancer patients. We went on homecare visits with the nurses and spent some days in the hospital collecting data. Our final report was a framework on how to asses the costs and benefits using Thai specific quality of life surveys and data compilation methods. 22 students went to the Thailand project center, and my group consisted of 2 other ladies; one is a Civil Engineering major and the other a Biomedical Engineering major. We stayed in WPI provided housing in Bangkok, and out sponsor also had a room for us at the cancer center were we stayed on occasion.
