Responsibilites of Alumni Admissions Volunteers
Alumni Admissions volunteers can participate in one or more of the following activities:
- College Fairs
- College fairs are similar to trade shows. Several colleges attend this event, typically held at a local high school or civic center, and display materials for students to take. The fair allows for students and their parents to ask college representatives specific questions. Typically a few hundred students attend these college fairs. Our office supplies you with all necessary Admissions materials.
- Evening Information Sessions
- In any given year, WPI's Admissions staff covers more than twenty-five information receptions at hotels across the country. Parents and students always enjoy hearing from alumni regarding their career paths. You will assist the Admissions counselor who is conducting the sessions and will mingle with our visitors (and a nice dinner is always included!)
- Early Action Accepted Student Phonathon
- In January, alumni volunteers will receive a list of one or two students to call/e-mail to congratulate on their admission to WPI. At this point, accepted students may wish to ask you about your campus experience and how you benefited from attending WPI. These students are among the strongest in our applicant pool each year.
- Regular Decision Parent Phonathon
- In April, alumni volunteers will receive the names of parents of students who were admitted under our Regular Decision plan. Parents play a key role in their children's college search. Your call will give them the opportunity to ask you specific questions about WPI. The fact that you can speak about how your education has impacted your career and family will help the student decide about the college they'll attend. A phone script will be sent to the alum.
- Assisting Admissions staff with Open House programs
- Throughout the year, WPI brings hundreds of families to campus for open houses for prospective and admitted students. We are looking for well-spoken alumni who can attend special events such as our Merit Breakfast or our Early Action dinner for parents to mingle and to share their own reasons for attending WPI.
