2008 Alumni Ambassador Description of Opportunities

Below you will see the list of activities in which you are welcome to participate. You may take part in any or all areas of the program, as both geography and time permit.

Assisting Admissions staff with Evening Information Sessions

In any given year, the WPI Admissions Office hosts as many as thirty information receptions at hotels across the country. Parents and students always enjoy hearing from local alumni regarding their career paths. Your role is to assist the Admissions officer who is conducting the sessions by greeting the students and parents and by speaking about how your WPI education helped you personally and professionally.

Phoning or E mailing Prospective Admitted Students and their Parents

Throughout the winter and spring, we give you names of accepted students in your area to congratulate and to offer your assistance as an involved alum. In March, alumni contact parents of soon-to-be-accepted students to address their concerns as well. These contacts can be made via telephone or e-mail. Also, as we receive requests from students who want to speak with alumni in their home areas, we will contact you!

Representing WPI at College Fairs

College fairs are an excellent source of contact with prospective students. Similar to trade shows, they are typically held at a local high school or civic center. Many colleges attend and display materials for students to take. The fair allows for students and their parents to ask college representatives specific questions. Typically a few hundred students attend these events. Our office supplies you with all necessary Admissions materials as well as the information you need to answer commonly asked questions. If WPI is invited to a fair in your area, we would call you well in advance to check your availability.
